People talk about digitisation and encourage owners to "Digitise their ships" stating that there are serious cost savings to be made. However, how can a ship owner do this? It's OK when planning the building of a ship, discussing with the ship yard and engine manufacturers and at that point it is not difficult ensure digitisation is installed throughout the vessel. However, retrospectively must be a big issue for ship owners/operators. Unless the ship owner spends a lot of money on converting his exiting machinery such that it will produce data and then on data collection devices, I don't see a solution for them. Of course before going through that exercise, the ship owner/operator needs to calculate the savings he is likely to make and so consider a ROI for the money spent. Does anyone know of companies that will be able to provide accurate information for the ship owner to help them decide whether it is worth going through the exercise of digitising their ships?
